BOTANICALS, BUTTERFLIES AND INSECTS, OH MY!!!

Saturday was girls' day.  My daughter and I met two of my friends and their daughters for tea and scones  at a local bakery.  Of course, girls' day calls for a little shopping.  After breakfast, we headed to a local shop called Quince and Quinn. They were having a huge tent sale and everything was 40% off.  I had never been to the store before, but I will definitely be going back.  Most things were a bit pricey, even at 40% off, but I did come away with a great book.  Well, actually 1/2 a book.  My friend and I decided to buy the book together.  We weren't buying it to read, we wanted to rip out the pages and frame them.

It was this book.
We paid $30 total and it can be also be found here.

My first selection was these three butterfly prints.  I had 8x10 close-up pictures of my three children here previously.  When I bought the frames, I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to put in them, but I loved the size and shape of them and knew they would work well on this big wall.

Here's a picture of the dining room all cleaned up (before I switched out the pictures).

I love the colors in the butterfly prints. Color is exactly what this wall needed.

One more look.....

Okay, now here's a look at some of the more pricey items that I absolutely loved.

I loved this vintage beverage cart.
Most items in the store were new, but there were a few really cool vintage things mixed in.

This industrial metal wall cabinet was calling my name.

I love this mirror, but it was waaaaaaaay too expensive.
I think I could find one at Homegoods and spray paint it glossy white for a similar look.

This pillow would be perfect in my daughter's new room.
However, I already confessed that I change my mind way too often to buy expensive pillows.

I have a thing for stools and I've been sternly warned,politely asked not to bring anymore stools home.
There are currently nine in our garage (waiting for a makeover).  Who needs some barstools?

I desperately want to replace the light in my boys' room and this one would be perfect.
It was 40% off $595, still too much for me.
I've got my eye on one very similar to this one without the high price tag.

I was loving this whole botanical scene.  The blue vase, the greenery and the fabric, love it all!

Last, but not least, this beautiful curved cabinet (with a blue interior).  The shape was amazing.

It was a great day, and I got to spend time with my little girl and two good friends.
Can't ask for much more than that.

Let There Be Light

Two friends and I made a mad dash up to the Ballard Designs outlet on Friday.  Practically everything in the entire store was 50% of the lowest marked price!  Sometimes I get a little too excited in these situations, so I like to do a complete walk through before shoving things in to my cart.  I usually come to the conclusion that:

 a) I don't really need half of what I originally think I want;
 b) I can't afford half of what I originally think I want;
c) both of the above.

Once I calmed down, took a few breaths and came to my senses, I settled on these two table lamps for my boys' room.  We do a lot of reading at bedtime and the lighting in their room is pretty poor.  These lamps really help brighten up the room. I got them both for less than one costs on Ballard's website

Here they are in the boys' room.

My friend ended up buying (after we talked her into it) this amazing light fixture. She has vaulted ceilings in her family room and this will be the perfect addition to the room.  She has some serious style, so I'll talk her into letting me take some photos of her crib and I will certainly share them with you all.

I also made one other small purchase ($3.00 to be exact).  My friends and I were giggling like school girls when we saw this pillow cover.  I had to buy it.  I figure, once a month, I'll display it proudly on the couch as a fair warning to my family.  I'm sure they'll get the hint.  At least my husband will.

That's what I call a successful shopping trip!  Hope you're week is getting off to a good start.
