Organizing the Jewelry: Ring Holders

ring holder and jewelry box

Have some rings that need a proper storage place — one that keeps them out on display, because that's the type of organizing that works for you? Let's look at some of the many ring holders that might meet your needs. The item above, a combination ring holder and jewelry box, is sold by Mjölk, in Canada. Update on Nov. 9, 2011: This ring holder comes from Skultuna, a brassware company in Sweden; it can also be purchased from twentytwentyone.

Jewelry Mannequins: Dressing Up Your Storage

jewelry mannequin dress stand

I've been intrigued by jewelry mannequins since I first stumbled upon them, online, back in 2007. Now you can even find them at Forever21 — but I'm still fascinated. The widest variety I've found recently is at JewelryNanny. But let's look at a few other jewelry mannequins.

The jewelry dress stand above comes from Chic Indulgences. It's one of the company's Victorian gowns; there's also Can Can couture, Bohemian chic, Hollywood legends and more.

Dolls Unlimited Omaha only has a few mannequin jewelry stands, but the ones it has are pretty darn nice.

This mannequin jewelry holder comes from Kings River.

If you're in Malaysia, you could order a mannequin jewellery stand from Glitzbitz.

Let's end with the Esslinger jewelry mannequins, which are very different — a change of pace from the gorgeous gowns.

Organizing Finds are Everywhere, Including the Pumpkin Festival

Farmer Mike carves pumpkins at 2010 Art and Pumpkin Festival, Half Moon Bay

I rarely go to the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, with its huge crowds and awful traffic. But some friends were going this year, so I joined them - and wound up having a lovely time. It rained, but we had umbrellas - and the rains kept the crowd levels down. (I'm sorry for the artists, though, who missed out on visitors.)

towel rack made by blacksmith

And of course, as I wandered around, I found some organizing-type products. Here's a towel rack from Poonkinney Forge.

The forge also sells some wonderful two-prong hooks with the same type of fanciful faces.

wood cap racks

The other organizing items I saw came from Scholfield Valley Wood Products. The cap racks caught my eye first.

wood earring racks

And then I saw the earring racks (and the necklace racks, not shown in this photo) - but I didn't see the unusual revolving necklace holder. Looking at the business's web site, I see that Scholfield Valley Wood Products also makes some nice Lazy Susans.

Necklaces: Organized and On Display

necklace tree, wood

Do you forget what jewelry you own if it's hidden away in a drawer? Are you tired of tangled chains? If so, here are some storage options to consider. This lovely hand-crafted necklace tree comes from Dave’s Woodcraft Studio. You can pick from three different wood choices.

necklace tree

Anne Ball provides a very different style of necklace tree. You can select from two different sizes, and a wide range of colors.

wall-mounted necklace holder

Dion and Tammy of EZNecklaceHolder provide wall-mounted options, in a heart shape or a basic rectangle.

And of course the do-it-yourself options are endless. For inspiration, take a look at what Emily did with knobs from Anthropologie.

Lots of Jewelry? Consider a Jewelry Armoire.

oak jewelry armoire

If you have a lot of jewelry to store - and you've already determined you do indeed want to keep all the pieces - a jewelry armoire (or jewelry chest) might be just the thing for you. Of course, these pieces call attention to themselves, so you wouldn't want to use one if you're concerned about theft.

There are many options that aren't too expensive, like the Powell Mission Oak Jewelry Armoire shown above. But let's leave price behind for a minute, and admire some of the beautiful storage options that are out there, created by individual artisans - pieces that are functional works of art.

jewelry cabinet

This stunning jewelry cabinet, in ash with walnut accents, comes from Michael Evans Design. You can also see it at CustomMade - a wonderful site I found from Hardwood Artisans. Update on Nov. 9, 2011: Michael Evans Design doesn't seem to have its own web site any more.

jewelry armoire

Cyma Furniture Design has this marvelous jewelry armoire, made with wenge and birch burl.

handcrafted jewelry chest

And finally, Dream Mountain Studio has the most amazing jewelry chests and cabinets - it was hard to pick just one to include! I encourage you to go to the web site and poke around. This one is called Birds in Flight.

wall-mounted mannequin

And finally, while I've written about jewelry mannequins before, this wall-mounted mannequin was new to me. Update on Nov. 9, 2011: This specific item is no longer available, but a similar one is. It's also available in black.

Organize and Display Your Jewelry with a Jewelry Mannequin

mannequin jewelry organizer

Jewelry mannequins were something totally new to me in 2007, when I first wrote about them. Now they're a familiar option - but the choices have changed over the years, so it's time for an update.

First, let's admire the mannequin jewelry organizers from YoungWorks; they're all hand-made. This one wears a Victorian-period style gown, but many different styles are available. Update on Oct. 18, 2011: I don't see an jewelry mannequins at this site any more.

butterfly lady jewelry mannequin

EchoMerx makes a wide range of jewelry stands. One of the more unusual options are the butterfly ladies, such as this one. Update on Feb. 9, 2011: The "jewelry stand" tab on the EchoMerx web site now takes me to JewelryNanny, which has the butterfly ladies.

jewellery mannequin

Over in the U.K., you can get jewellery mannequins from Home Interiors. Update on Oct. 18, 2011: This product line appears to have been discontinued.

2 jewelery mannequins, African-inspired look

Lady Sophisticate has some unusual mannequin jewelry organizers, including these African-inspired ones. Update on Oct. 18, 2011: Lady Sophisticate no longer carries these products, but I found them here.

dress frame jewelry holder

Finally, the dress frame jewelry holder is another, related choice. "Drape with jewelry or push earrings and pins into the foam/linen bust."

Woodworking Gallery in Half Moon Bay: Stunning Storage and Other Organizing Products

shell box

I've been admiring the many lovely wood items at Gallery M for ages now - and have bought some smaller items. It's a gallery dedicated to high-quality woodworking, carrying the work of many different artisans. So I don't know why I never thought of featuring the many storage options available at this remarkable store until I walked into the place on Friday.

Owner Andreas Strieve was kind enough to send me some great photos - so you'll be seeing a combination of my snapshots and his much better photos.

wood trunk or hope chest

There are a number of stunning furniture pieces, such as this hope chest - as well as various chests of drawers, and nightstands, and desks with drawers.

charging station, wood

charging station, wood

But I'm going to mostly focus on the smaller items. One that really caught my eye was the charging station, which handles five items. The one I saw cost $149. It comes in a number of different woods, as you can see.

jewelry box, closed

And then there are the beautiful wood jewelry boxes.

jewelry box, open

The interiors are lovely, too!

jewelry box, open

This one doesn't look like much when it's closed - it's just a wood cube. But when it's opened - oh my!

small wood boxes

You can get small boxes, like these.

jewelry chest closed

jewelry chest open

Or a large jewelry chest, like this one.

And it's not just about how beautiful these are, but also how well-made - something you can't convey through pictures on the web.
