Spread the Love: My Story

Last week Anna, Megan and I challenged our readers to start a movement of Kindness.  We threw out a bunch of ideas of how to spread the love throughout the week. I'm super excited to read what you all did! Here's what I decided to do...

Since my favorite tea shop went out of business, I've been going to Starbucks every-other-day to get my zebra hot-chocolate. On Friday I went in to get my regular, and decided to pick up a gift card and put $5 on it.

Me {to the cashier}: This is going to be a little weird, but can you actually keep the gift card and give it to the next person who walks in the door after I leave?
Cashier: Are you serious? This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done. How cool! I've never witnessed someone doing this.
Me: Yeah, I write a blog and we're trying to spread some love this week with random acts of kindness!
Cashier: Wow, that's awesome. I'm totally going to do this today for someone else at a restaurant or something!
Me: That's what we were hoping it would spark!

So I took a pen and wrote "Pay it Forward" on the envelope, hoping to encourage that person to do the same for someone else someday!

Isn't that amazing?! I hope she followed through and did it for someone else :) It's so neat to feel so much joy in my heart just by passing along a few dollars to someone at Starbucks. There's a sense of mystery to it, too, which I love, because I didn't know who would end up with it.

I also wrote a few hand written notes and even picked up a little something for my BFF Megan. Don't tell though cause it's in the mail. Okay I ruined the surprise...oops! :)

What did you do to spread the love?!

Be sure to tell me in the comments, write a post about it, and link it up with Megan at Mackey Madness. Anna, Megan and I will be reading through them today. Thanks to everyone who's joining in on the fun!

Feel free to include this graphic in your post!

Let's make it our goal as a community to share smiles, laughs, kindness and love throughout this whole month-even to people we've never met!

Happy Monday!
Love,

Spread the Love

Hi friends! I'm very excited today because me and a few of my favorite blog pals are hoping to start a movement of kindness.  Since the month of love is just around the corner, I'm teaming up with Anna of In Honor of Design and Megan of Mackey Madness to hopefully encourage our readers to find fun and creative ways to spread the love this week! You may remember we did this last year, too. It was so encouraging and inspiring to read about all the different ways people showed kindness to others. Because the blogosphere is such an awesome, supportive community, what better place to start a movement?! If each of us do something intentionally kind this week, just think of how many people we could touch.

Here are a few ways to join in...

-Strike up a conversation with someone and ask how their day is.  They'll feel important!
-Go through a drive-thru and pay for the person's food behind you.
-Give a homeless person a gift card to get food.
-Leave a sweet note on someone's car in a parking lot.
-Mail your old a friend an encouraging letter.
-By flowers for your neighbor or friend.
-Send out a text telling your friends and family how much you love and appreciate them.
-Pay for the person's starbucks' behind you. (I just put 5 dollars on a gift card and give it to the cashier and tell them to let the person a few folks behind me use it.)
-Simply smile at the person who you pass in the mall. They'll be caught off guard.
-Offer to get groceries for your mom.
-Let that person pull out from the parking lot and get in front of you on the road.
-Call your grandma!
-Buy something simple for a friend or loved one...just because
-Do a random act of kindness that you get no recognition for, but brighten someone else's day.

Be creative! And we want to hear about it :) Next Monday {February 6th} Megan, over at Mackey Madness, will be holding a link up party where we are able to write a post about what we did and link it up for others to read. Let's see how many people can spread kindness this week.
Ready.Set.Go.

We hope you'll join us in spreading the love. Leave your ideas of what to do in the comments!
Happy Monday

Sweet Nothings

Happy Monday!  What'd you do for your weekend? It's still the weekend for me, because today is MLK day! No school is always a wonderful thing.  I'm excited to read everyone's posts on what they did for their random act of kindness this week.  I love that the blogging community can make a difference in our own little towns and cities.  I joined with these beautiful ladies to hopefully spread some love this past week by doing sweet little nothings for people in our communities!

Yesterday I took my Sunday trip to The Tea Cup to do homework, but first I stopped in at Starbucks.  I went up to the register and purchased a gift card with $10 on it.  Then I told the barista I was doing something a little different.  I asked him to keep the gift card and give it to the next person who walked in to order a drink and just tell them that it was a gift from a girl who came in who's trying to spread kindness and pay it forward.  He was shocked! In a good way (:  He said, "Wow! I've never had anyone do that.  This is awesome."  Even HE smiled, and it wasn't even for him!  I, of course, left the store before I could see who he gave it to, but I'm guessing they enjoyed it.  As soon as I walked out I was so overcome with joy, knowing that {hopefully} I made someone's day!

It's funny, I was kind of in a funk today; missing home, overwhelmed and such, but as soon as I did this, I felt happy.  I realized life isn't all about me.  It's about touching other people and making a difference.  It's about smiles and laughter and serving.  Even if you don't get the recognition for it.  So while I was challenged to make someone's day, it in turn made my day as well! Now isn't that special?! I think so.  I'm going to try to do this once a month...trying someone different each time.  Now Megan, Jamie, Nicole and I want to hear about what YOU did! Tell us by commenting or linking up to Megan's linky party!

{via Gem Photo}
Also, if you didn't do a random act of kindness yet, don't worry! Megan's going to leave up the link party for the whole week so no one is left out, because she. is. awesome.

Stay tuned for the link to the blog I'm writing for the boutique by my school. It's almost up and running! And THANK YOU for all the compliments and congratulations I received when I told you all the news.  You're too sweet!

In other news, yesterday I was lucky enough to meet Maggie from her blog, Maggie Rose.  She's a design blogger, and now a REAL LIFE friend, who lives by me. She's adorable, charming and we've got lots in common! If you haven't seen her blog- head on over! It's a delight (:

Don't Forget!

Happy Sunday, everyone.  Hope you're all having a relaxing weekend.  Just a reminder to link up with Megan at Mackey Madness tomorrow (Monday) sharing your experience in giving someone else the gift of kindness this week.  If you missed the first post on how to get involved, here's a recap:

It's the start of a new year!  We want to celebrate that by making people smile.  I think it's really important to extend our love to all people.  Smiling, laughing, giving someone a compliment, or paying for someone's starbucks could be the highlight of someone's day! Here's how you can get involved:

-Strike up a conversation with someone and ask how their day is.  They'll feel important!
-Go through a drive-thru and pay for the person's food behind you.
-Give a homeless person a gift card to get some food.
-Offer to get groceries for your mom.
-Let that person pull out from the parking lot and get in front of you.

There are many other ways to do this, too!  Get creative!  We want to hear about it. Think of the difference we could make as a community.  We live all over the country and, together, we have the power to influence other's lives, for the better!

Here's how it will work:
1. Do your random act of kindness this week.
2. Write up a post, sharing what you did!
3. Join the party! Link up that post next MONDAY, JANUARY 17th with Megan at Mackey Madness! {don't worry, I'll remind you next week to link up!}
4. Visit some of the links to see what our community did to make people smile!

Can't wait to read what you've been up to this week tomorrow at Megan's blog and see how you helped spread the:
