Bored of Winter? Get Ready for Warmer Weather with Décor

Winter blues are hard to shake, spruce up your home andprepare it for warmer months ahead. Typically you want your home reflect thewarmth and brightness outside your window, which is tough when it gets darkerearlier and is snowy. This doesn’t mean though that you cannot warm up thehome.  To do so you do not necessarilyhave to make this happen by buying new furniture or remodeling the house, witha few accessories and additions to your interior, you can change the look ofyour house depending on preference and season. This is only if you stay true toyour color scheme and theme. Whether it is chic, relaxed, casual orsophisticated with a few touch ups on the paint and decor, you could easilychange the mood of a room.

New coats of paint always gives a room a new and fresh lookand during the warmer weather you want to ensure your colors are warm forexample: orange, yellows, purples, pink rose, mauves, peach. An easier way todecide on the colors to pick would be to follow nature and watch which floralcolors feature during the summer. Another neat way to revamp a bland room isthe additions of stripes, however, maintain one direction with the strips toavoid creating confusion especially if your style is modern and chic. For asophisticated look, try and stick to solid monochromes and not include too manypatterns. There are various tutorials that offer instruction on a paint job asa DIY project; alternatively, you could also get a professional to do it.

When creating a seasonal room, mirroring nature is a niceway to go. For example, include floral arrangements in clear or warm coloredvases in your rooms. This creates the illusion of bringing the outside inside.Replace the wooden table with something brighter and more inviting; resintableware would be a perfect choice and with the technological advancementsbeing made every day, they have managed to make it look like real glass butlighter. What’s more you can get it in various bright colors.

When constantly changing your interior decorations, whetherout of preference or according to the season, your aim is to do it at minimalcost yet acquire the same quality. To achieve this you should invest in coversfor your cushions and couch, for the summer your choice of covers is lightlinen fabric for the winter, darker more neutral tones, and some snowflakedesigns are nice. This is an inexpensive and easy way to change up the look ofa room.

Sheer drapes and curtains also help create a relaxed look inthe house, with the curtains avoid dark solid colors, or heavy patterns, if youare looking to lighten up a room, floral pictures and net are ideal for awinter warm up. Alternatively, you could group warm different shades of warmcolored netting and create beautiful curtains. For example, by arranging lightred, pink and white colored sheer curtains in that order from the left and thesame from the right on your curtain box, you create the illusion of movement andrelaxation.
With simple touches here and there you can easily change themood in your house to suit the season, while remaining within your budget.

She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not: Danielle Oakey Interiors

Happy Friday & February, friends! Today I'm excited to introduce Danielle from Danielle Oakey Interiors

Danielle is an interior design graduate who writes about all things home & design. I love her blog for stylish inspiration, new interior design ideas and peeks into her own home! Danielle's use of color is one of the things I adore most about her style.  I'm so happy she's here today sharing what she's loving and what she's not!
***

Hi everyone, I am Danielle from Danielle Oakey Interiors.
I am so happy that Michaela invited me to be a part of this series!

SHE LOVES ME:

1. Emory
I couldn't resist placing my spunky little 3 year old girl Emory as #1. She keeps me on my toes and I am  obsessed with her :)

2. Chiang Mai Dragon Pillows
I am really excited about my new $40.00 Chiang Mai Dragon pillows.
They were such a great deal and I adore them.

3. Animals
I love love love accessorizing with animals, especially ceramic ones.
I used this sweet little bird in an entry I recently helped accessorize.

Best smelling candle ever. I can't get enough!

SHE LOVES ME NOT:

1. Grocery Shopping
I loathe grocery shopping but I love food. Such a weekly dilemma. :)

2.  Medical School
My husband is in his 3rd year of Medical School.
It-is-miserable.
I can't wait to have my hubby back.

3. Pictures Hung Too High
One of my biggest pet peeves in interiors is when pictures are hung too high on a wall.
Obviously this one is done just right and it gives me warm fuzzes.

Thanks so much for having me!
xoxo,

Thanks, girl! I also adore those pillows and Anthro candles...I always have one burning :) And pictures hung to high {or low for that matter} always bothers me, too!

Be sure to stop by to say hello to Danielle and check out her lovely home at Danielle Oakey Interiors.

She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not: Twenty Three Oh One

Today we have the pleasure of hearing from one of my favorite new (to me) bloggers, Katy, from Twenty Three Oh One
Katy has to be one of the kindest, most genuine girls I've met in blogland. I first fell in love with her house during the holidays when she knocked her Christmas Decor out of the park! Her home is beautiful, she is darling and I'm so excited to see more of her design endeavors as her family grows! Let's hear what she's loving and what she's not...
***

Hi! I'm Katy, the blogger behind Twenty Three Oh One. I am SO very thankful that Michaela has asked me to participate in her "She Loves Me" guest series today! Isn't she the sweetest girl with the most adorable blog?
Here is a little list of what I'm absolutely loving (and absolutely not loving) right now:

She Loves Me
1. Rainy Days
Source: imgfave.com via Julie on Pinterest

Oh man, do I love rainy days. And oh man, do I miss them! Living in west Texas and experiencing the worst drought in the last century is no picnic. I can promise you that. What I wouldn't give to wake up to the sound of rain falling! Ahhhhh....I can only imagine :).

2. Striped Tote Bags
Source: etsy.com via Katy on Pinterest

If you've ever read my blog you'll know that I'm a sucker for stripes in home decor. These striped bags are no exception. I  cannot begin to explain how much I am obsessing over this bag. And this one. This one too. So casual and modern! Enough said.

3. Cute outfit combos for little boys
I've spent my entire life immersed in the world of women's fashion and never knew just how adorable clothes in "boy world" can be....until I found out I was expecting one! You better believe that my sweet baby boy (who I will hopefully meet in about 14 weeks!) will be rocking cute little get-ups like the ones above. All from The Gap, of course. I tell you what, Baby Gap and Gap Kids will be a budget breaker here in the next few years. I'm okay with it, though. :)

4. Prayer with Purpose
Source: etsy.com via Katy on Pinterest

I've been thinking a lot about being more intentional with my life, but until today, it never dawned on me that I should be more intentional with my prayer life. One of my friends mentioned a link to this blog post on Facebook. It's called 31 Days of Praying for Your Husband. I thought it was really interesting to spend each day praying for a specific part of your husband's life and well being. It's a great reminder that prayer is supposed to be a selfless act!

5. Two Toned Cabinets
{sources found here}

I am hoping to paint the lower half of my currently all white kitchen cabinets sometime this year...but we will see how that goes. ;) Now to decide what color to use! Blue-gray, green-gray, blue-green, cream, ecru...the options are endless. (and overwhelming!)

She Loves Me Not
1. Sunday Night Blues

Blah. Sunday nights are without a doubt my least favorite time of the week, especially when the weekend has been crazy and not the least bit relaxing. I always try to have a good attitude about having a fresh start to a brand new week, but sometimes I would rather get one more day off, you know?

2. The "I don't know what to do with my life" feeling you get after finishing a great book.

Getting lost in a good book is one of the best methods of kicking back in my opinion, but finishing that last page is such a depressing feeling. Without fail, I will get upset upon finishing a book because I feel like my new friends are ditching me to go on with their more interesting and exciting lives. Apparently I have attachment issues.... ;)

3. Living far away from family

Don't get me wrong, my husband and I love our little town and the relationships that we have made here, but it seems to get harder and harder to be away from our families. I hope to be back near them someday, but for now, I try to find happiness in the thought that being far away makes those family vacations and trips home so much more special.

If you get a chance, stop by my blog to say hi! Thanks again for having me, Michaela!

Thanks, Katy! I'm loving the two-toned cabinets!! And being away from family is hard, but you're right- time with them is much more special :)
Now go check out Twenty Three Oh One and tell Katy hello. Don't forget to check out her adorable office-in-a-closet makeover. What a genius this girl is!

What are you loving this week?

She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not: Courtney Lane

It's Wednesday! And it's such a special day because our guest blogger is one of my real life friends {yes, I have lots of those!} from our design department at school! Meet my friend Courtney of Courtney Lane Blog

I've so enjoyed meeting Courtney and getting to know her this year in our design classes.  We definitely share a true passion for what we do. I just love her sense of style. She's sweet and so funny, too! Go check out her brand new blog, where she shares great little shops, awesome design ideas, projects from our design classes and more! Today Courtney is here sharing her loves and love-me-nots.  Take it away :)
***

Hi guys! I'm Courtney Lane.
I'm an interior design student in Seattle, as well as a brand new blogger! I have loved getting to know Michaela personally this year in our design classes so I am psyched to be here at her blog sharing a few things I love, and a few things I do not love. So here it goes!

She Loves Me

1. Bella Figura's letterpress invitations

I discovered this company the other day and could not handle how many amazing invitations were on their website. I probably clogged everyone's Pinterest feeds with how many of these pups I was pinning. But I'm sure they didn't mind...they're fun to look at!

2. Clay dishes (Rae Dunn Clay)

I learned about Rae Dunn a few years ago when I saw her products at my all-time favorite store in Portland--Peggy Sundays. I love how much charm and personality is in each handmade & imperfect piece.

Emily Henderson
3. Velvet

I don't know if it's the fact that I love to be warm, that I'm obsessed with everything soft, or that winter is here...but I have fallen head over heels for velvet lately.

4. Clawfoot tubs

I've never met a clawfoot tub that I don't like. This cheery yellow one is no exception. Not to mention that adorable ruffly Anthropologie shower curtain!

She Loves Me Not

1. First and foremost...sloths.

Does anyone else think sloths are as terrifying as I do!?! Honestly...one of my top 5 biggest fears. It pained me to even google the word 'sloth' to find this picture. My friends try to be funny and send me sloth videos on Facebook. I know some people think they're precious. Apparently the person in this photo does if they're embracing him like that. But I'm sorry...sloths and I will just never be friends!

2. Close talkers

I've had a few encounters with close talkers, so I died laughing at this cartoon that shows how to deal with them:
via

3. Being cold

I rent an old brick house with 5 other girls in Seattle. I love living there. But my upstairs bedroom is SO cold. The 2 girls that live in the basement could probably wear tank tops and shorts to bed, while my roommate and I are wearing something more along the lines of...oh I don't know, THIS?

Ha ha...ha.

Thanks SO much for having me Michaela!

See isn't she great?! Courtney and I share our hatred for the cold...which is ironic considering it's freezing here everyday! I'm in love with that velvet chair above...swoon! Thank you for being here, girl!

Now go stop by Courtney's blog to say hello and catch up on her latest posts. She's a funny one and you won't regret visiting. Ready. Set. Go.

What are you loving today?
Happy Wednesday!
