Where I start... {design process}
For the past few weeks I have been working on several projects and yesterday was my presentation... yey!
I thought I would go through and give you a little idea of how the design process works for me..
(if you don't care that's okay too)
I typically start projects off in different ways depending on the type of customer. These projects are for a commercial client and they started with fabric...lots and lots of fabric. I submitted around 15 packets for 5 different projects. Once the fabric selections were made I was able to run wild with lifestyles and furnishings, which is always kind of fun, but can be time consuming as I have to make all of the choices. Each space has it's own look and appeal depending on the target market and the budget that we are working with, and they tend to grow organically from there. I can spend hours and hours looking for the right lifestyle photo to convey to my customer what it is that I am trying to accomplish for them. After that is taken care of it is onto furnishings, lighting, art and fabric. Once I have presented everything, we fine tune the pillow styles, the accessories, and art, as well as any custom furnishings that need to be made up. They true test comes after months of planning, ordering and measuring, when we install and see it all come together from samples and pictures into the real thing. It is the best reward after a long installation to see your work completed and have your customer happy with the results.
I cannot imagine doing anything else in this crazy world. I have found that I like to switch back and forth between commercial and residential design so I can balance the two types. I love meeting new clients and working with what they want and need as it presents it's own challenges. This is a very brief explanation of what goes into the design process but I thought I would share as I get a lot of questions about it.
So with these projects completed I have a few days to focus on emails before I start on some others and our upcoming One Kings Lane Sale.

Sometimes the details of design work can be all consuming. I was talking with my assistant today about the way occasionally design work makes us have a type of forced creativity... it is a weird thing. Once you have to create something on a deadline it kind of sucks the creative juice out of you for just a little while. Then you have to go out and find something to recharge that battery, something as simple as a walk can work but I much prefer some kind of travel.

Our Master Bath...
It has taken a while, a long while, but our Master Bath is finally done. I am so excited to have it complete and be able to use it again! It is clean and simple just as I had hoped. I am still working on accessories and I feel like I want to add something to the walls, but for all intents and purposes it is complete.
We finally decided to use the wall mounted faucets which I am very happy we did, it is just a little bit different from the norm. We mounted them just above the back splash and they are great with the vessel sinks from Kraus.
I love the Walker Zanger tile accent, it is just what we needed for a little something special in the shower.
We used soapstone on the counter and bath tub. Which is so pretty, a little delicate but it is perfection.
The counter is the perfect spot for a few little things like my new vintage vanity mirror from the Pasadena flea market and my new Barr Co. candle. The cabinet we converted has a lot of storage so I can keep everything tucked away.
I think this is one of my favorite things!! I love the custom sconces from Cleveland Art. They are so beautiful the pictures do not even do them justice. They were the last pieces to be put in and they truly finished the space up.
The shower was really hard to photograph so this is the best way to see it. We opted for the rain shower head, love it, and a completely glass enclosure. The remodel was a lot more work than I thought but a great experience, and I am so happy with the results.

Master Bath Updates
Our Master Bath updates are well under way! I could not be more excited to get this project completed. I chose all of the pieces very slowly, which is not normal for me- I was having a tough time making choices. For the shower we are using Walker Zanger Studio Moderne Petit Imperial in Jute as the inset with the small matching field tile and trim, I LOVE it! It looks so amazing! The sink will be a free standing piece with a limestone top, the kraus vessel sinks, Kholer wall mounted faucets and custom mirrors and lighting.
This is what the bathroom looked like last week (below). Which was making me crazy. Since then we have pulled all the tile as well as the mirror, sinks and cabinets, they were so bad. I will be giving you an update next week on our progress, which I am excited to say does not included exposed insulation!

Wing chair before and after..
It has been a while since I have had these back and I have been so bad about taking pictures of them. I am so happy with the way they turned out and I think that they will just get better and better as I wash them and have them tighten up a bit.
Another busy week this week and I am looking forward to completing a few things around here and moving along with the bathroom. I have been reading and trying to rest up enough so that I can get some things taken care of.
Another project that I have been working on for a little while installed a few weeks back.. I love love the way the banquettes turned out with the metal tables... It was a very fun space, I cannot wait for the TV's to get in to see it in full effect!

Master bath dreams..
So I have been contemplating for months - what am I going to do with my master bath?? With work being so busy I have been putting off the planning and I had stopped searching but really we were at the point where it could not wait any longer! So finally a few weeks ago I found a few hours to work on my bathroom, I took a quick trip to Walker Zanger in search of the perfect tile for the shower as it had been eluding me for months!!! We have an existing marble floor that we put in just a few years ago and my tastes have changed so much since then so it was hard to decide what I wanted.
Finally I thought I had it all figured out and when I went to order it today it completely destroyed my budget- back to the drawing board I am afraid.
The picture above is my dream cabinet, but this also is not in my budget and not in my color scheme thanks to the floor. I will share our progress as it becomes available, which will be very soon considering my hubby is almost done pulling out all of the old tile and the new tile has to be started next week!
