Rosehips

Seedpods

And

Berries



It has been a while since I shared what’s going on in our garden. Until recently, not very much saving the dry condition.
But God…don’t you just love the combination of those two words.
God sent rain our way. And it rained good fashion – as the folks say here.

3 1/2 inches of rain in two days

It reminded me that there’s nothing better than a cold drink of water when one is thirsty – and there’s nothing better for a garden than a good, deep rain.
The garden is coming of age this Autumn.

Hurricane, Surprise Lilies


Rosehips are maturing.





Crabapples are ready for picking


Berries are changing their colors

this is a weedy vine - but, I think the berries are pretty



Seedpods are opening to spring forth the promise of new life.




The Montezuma Balled Cypress balls are fascinating




Mums are bursting into bloom.



There's so much to enjoy in the Autumn garden.

Loquat blossom buds will produce tiny orange fruit later this winter


I love the look of the Resurrection Fern against the moss growing on the Cypress tree
When I woke the birds and squirrels were busy foraging in my garden; their happy chatter pleased my heart.
I have plans for change in my garden –
Hopefully ones that will ensure a better summer for my
dear plants.

Golden Moments

Golden Moments


On this fine September morning I was happy to see this butterfly floating in my garden. There haven't been that many this year. It fluttered about then finally settled on a late-blooming lavender blossom. I was able to get close enough as it drank deeply from the blossom’s nectar turning over and over the bloom.



I liked how the sunlight caught the wings of the butterfly, softening it.


The early morning hours were cool, but I could feel the warmth of the sun and knew it was going to be another very warm summer’s day.
The garden is tired now. Only a few days left to the season and I have some clean-up to do. I see the deep red Crape Myrtle is giving us a second flush of blooms – I dead-headed the earlier blossoms  a while back.


This Hibiscus is doing beautifully.


The La Marne rose has several blossoms that appear faded from the summer's heat. They're first blooms are a beautiful pink.



The Moss Rose is still opening its flowers showing its vibrant colors– usually around 10 am




The petunias have shown their beauty throughout the summer



I am very happy with the Geraniums this year.





This Sweet Autumn Clematis is a volunteer – I would have them all over the garden if I let them!




I am enjoying the fairy tale mirror in my garden –
it adds just the right whimsy to my garden – I plan on moving garden statues to create a sort of – Snow White garden.




I hope you’re enjoying this September day, Fall is not too far away – I look forward to its crisp mornings and its colors.

An Affection for Geraniums
Pelargoniums


This year I seem to have been drawn to
Red geraniums.


I love the white, pink, purple, blue and orange ones too!
But, when I walked into the garden center last
Spring the deep red geraniums seemed to
Stand out.


To me - they speak of cottage and home gardens.
They're a very cheerful, welcoming flower.


Geraniums are very easy to care for.
Geraniums like  loose , well drained soil.
Geraniums can be fed with a water soluble fertilizer,
But take care the fertilizer is well watered in
And washed off leaves.


In late August you can take cuttings of your
Geraniums, place them in a sandy or perlite soil
with the stem dipped into a rooting hormone.


The roots require air and moisture.
You can easily overwinter your Geranium by


a sunny window or remove from dirt, shaking off
the soil and applying sulfer to the plant. Store it
in a dark, dry area such as a basement until
early Spring.


It is very hot here this first of August, we
are experiencing extreme heat.
My garden is doing pretty well considering,
