Trillium
(trillium, wakerobin, tri flower, birthroot)
is a genus of about 40–50 species of spring ephemeral perennials,
native to temperate regions of North America and Asia.
A white trillium serves as the emblem and official flower of the Canadian province of Ontario.
It is an official symbol of the Government of Ontario.
The large white trillium is the official wildflower of the State of Ohio, USA as well.

Die Waldlilien (Trillium), auch Dreiblätter genannt, sind eine Pflanzengattung,
die zur Familie der Germergewächse (Melanthiaceae) gehört.
Waldlilien finden sich in Nordamerika und in Asien.
Ein weißes Trillium ist die offizielle Blume der kanadischen Provinz Ontario.

While shopping in one of our small variety stores in Guildwood
I found this very unusual geranium with variegated foliage.
Foliage can be compared with a Canadian Mapleleaf and the flowers are bright red.
I found the plant irresistible!! How could I resist?
Now enjoy Geranium Vancouver Centennial every day in the garden.
Research on the Internet revealed that it was named for the
100th anniversary of the City of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and won the
 Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

Canadian Explorer Rose "Champlain"
"Still in bloom--
but for how long ?"


This beautiful rose was named after Samuel de Champlain
( *1580 France -†1635 Quebec, Canada)
"The Father of New France", was a French navigator, cartographer, draughtsman, soldier,
explorer, geographer, ethnologist, diplomat and chronicler.
He founded Quebec City on July 3, 1608, and served as its administrator for the rest of his life.

Er war ein französischer Forschungsreisender und Kolonisator.
