Distinguishing Elements of Style
A look at Country French

Can you tell by looking at a decorated room the style the owner was attempting to portray?

I think that certain styles are easily distinguished.

Shabby Chic
timeworn look, soft, pastel colors, feminine, cottons and linens, comfort

Formal-Traditional
elegant and refined

Contemporary
simplicity, clean lines, modern, space

To me, it is the styles that include the word
Country that give me pause to discern the actual style.
I picked up a wonderful magazine last week.
Country French

It is very well illustrated with what the owners determined to be their "Country French" Style.
According to the editors of this magazine, "when you mix timeworn appeal with the lyrical forms of classic French design and a color palette plucked from nature, you have the recipe for an architectural  and decorating style that is both sublimely elegant and incredibly comfortable. At its core, this is the beauty of country French style".
Examples of these elements are

Mixing new and old with textures

Painted Furniture

Vintage, French Furniture, Drapes

Delft blue tiles and chandelier meet antique French chairs

Elegance and comfort

Embellished cabinetry,

Wrought iron, color and collectibles

Dramatic fireplace features, accessories paired with comfort

Each of the homes featured in this magazine have elements that are similar and at the same time different.
To each, a sense of comfort, elegance, romance with a European feel equaled a 'timeless quality' they found alluring in Country French style.
