I love Azeleas and have always one in bloom !!
Although Azaleas are spring flowers by nature, they allow themselves to be moldable,
and therefore are often forced for Christmas and holiday-season use.
Modern hybrids produce a mass of ruffled or double, white, pink, red or bi-colored flowers that almost obscure the foliage. Although they cannot tolerate frost, Azeleas will rapidly die if kept too warm; an average temperature works best, so a porch, hall or stairwell is generally the best site for them if you are going to keep azaleas as houseplants.

Ursprünglich kommen Rhododendron und Azalea als kultivierte Zimmerpflanzen Arten aus China und Japan. In Europa ist die Indische Azalee (Rhododendron simsii) und etwas weniger oft die Japanische Azalee (Rhododendron japonicum) als Zimmerpflanze beliebt.
Von Rhododendron simsii wurden hunderte Sorten gezüchtet, bei Rhododendron japonica waren die Züchter etwas weniger fleißig. Das normale gärtnerisch angebaute Sortiment umfasst allerdings weniger als 50 Sorten. Die Zimmerazaleen blühen von September bis April mit einfachen und gefüllten Blüten in Weiß-, Rosa- und Rottönen.
